SEND Reform Consultation with Children and Young People project (SEND co-production)

Gathering thoughts on the changes to support for people with SEND.

About the project

The government is asking people what they think about changes to support for children and young people (CYP) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

They want to:

  • improve support in schools and services
  • make sure help is easier to get
  • make services work better together

A consultation means they are:

  • listening to parents, carers, children, and professionals
  • asking for feedback and ideas
  • using this feedback to decide what changes to make

Outputs

What we are doing and have done:

The SEND Local Area Partnership hosted an event in April to bring together a range of children and young people to gather their thoughts and views to the consultation questions

Amy and Chanika (Co-production Officers) also visited two settings to speak with young people with additional needs and disabilities to gather their views.

Outcomes

The difference this makes to CYP:

  • I am listened to, understood and involved in decisions about my life

Impact

The difference this makes to policies, services and workforce:

  • the information gathered by all the children and young people was submitted to the government
  • the information gathered will also be used to help 91制片厂plan their local SEND Reform plans
