All pledges remain visible throughout the year, creating a source of inspiration and motivation for others. Whether your goal is big or small, your pledge can spark ideas and help build a culture of reading across Worcestershire.

Why make a pledge?

Making a reading pledge is a simple but powerful way to prioritise reading in your daily life. It helps you:

  • stay motivated by setting a clear intention
  • discover new authors, genres, and interests
  • connect with others who share a love of books
  • celebrate your progress throughout the year

Pledges can be as simple as reading more often, trying a new genre, exploring audiobooks, or taking part in library events. Every pledge counts.

The benefits of reading

As screen time continues to increase, the Reading Pledge Wall offers a chance to reconnect with the many benefits of reading. For children, reading supports imagination, creativity, and confidence. For adults, it can improve wellbeing, reduce stress, and provide a valuable break from busy daily routines.

Making reading a regular habit, no matter how small, can have a lasting positive impact.

How it works

The reading pledge works by:

1. Choose your reading goal

Decide what you鈥檇 like to achieve, whether it鈥檚 reading a certain number of books, trying a new genre, or simply reading more regularly.

2. Write your pledge

Keep it simple, personal, or creative, whatever inspires you.

3. Add it to the wall

Submit your pledge online or visit your local library for help adding it in person.

4. Start reading!

Worcestershire鈥檚 libraries are here to support you with book recommendations, events, and friendly encouragement along the way.

  • 鈥淚 pledge to finish five books that have been on my list forever.鈥
