How we help before, during and after an emergency

Find out how we work with partners to help prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, ensuring our communities are supported before, during and after disruption or emergencies.

The Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Team helps 91制片厂County Council and its partners prepare for, respond to, and recover from minor to major emergencies. Our work is shaped by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, which requires local authorities to: 

  • assess the risk of emergencies occurring 
  • put in place effective emergency plans 
  • develop business continuity arrangements 
  • share information with the public about emergency preparedness 
  • warn, inform and advise the public during an emergency 
  • cooperate and share information with other local responders 
  • provide advice to businesses and voluntary organisations on business continuity management 

Our key responsibilities

Understanding local risks

We assess local hazards and threats using the , helping us identify the types of emergencies the county must be prepared for.

Helping the public to be prepared

We provide practical guidance to residents, community groups and local organisations so they know how to help themselves in an emergency.

This supports our wider aim of ensuring 91制片厂is prepared for any foreseeable risks.

Developing and testing emergency plans

We design, review and exercise a wide range of emergency plans to ensure effective responses to incidents within and around Worcestershire.

Plans are regularly tested through drills, multi-agency exercises and real time learning from incidents.

Working with partner agencies

We collaborate with our partners which includes the emergency services, district councils, health services, utilities and voluntary agencies to build strong multi agency arrangements.

This includes joint planning, training, exercising and post incident debriefs.
 

Ensuring the Council can keep delivering critical services

We maintain and support business continuity arrangements across 91制片厂County Council so critical public services we deliver can continue during disruptions such as severe hot or cold weather, IT outages or other major incidents.

24/7 emergency response

We provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year on call service to coordinate the council鈥檚 response to emergencies affecting Worcestershire. In an emergency contact 999 in the first instance. If our partners determine they or the community require our support they will contact us directly.

Business continuity

We offer advice and guidance to help businesses and voluntary organisations develop their own business continuity arrangements, improving resilience across the county.

Guidance for schools

We provide specialist emergency planning support to schools, including enhanced guidance for those subscribed to our Schools Critical Incident SLA.
