What is domestic abuse?
Domestic abuse is a serious issue that can affect anyone, often in ways that are not immediately visible.
The following are examples of abuse and neglect:
- physical - which can include hitting or pushing
- non-fatal strangulation
- psychological - which can include bullying, threats or humiliation
- discriminatory - harassment of slurs linked to race, gender, gender identity, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion
- financial - which includes stealing money or property
- sexual - which can include sexual activity without consent
- coercive and controlling behaviour – telling you who can see, how you dress, tracking where you go.
- neglect – ignoring your physical and emotional needs, education or health, food or heating
