This year’s competition drew a record number of aspiring writers, with 148 poems submitted from across the county. 12 finalists took to the stage at The Hive in Worcester this past Sunday, and the talented finalists captivated the judges with their outstanding performances.

Congratulations also to London Ward, who won in the School Year 6, 7, and 8 age group, as well as to Abigail Hall, who won in the School Year 9, 10 and 11 category.

Louisa Ackling, 91��Ƭ��Library Service Development & Engagement Manager said: The Young Poet Laureate event is a cherished annual celebration in our county, offering a stage for emerging young writers. This year’s final was especially powerful, their words resonated with honesty, strength, and insight, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present."

Worcestershire’s Young Poet Laureate competition has been running for 15 years and aims to encourage young people to express themselves through poetry. It also provides a platform for young poets to showcase their work and gain recognition for their talent.

Elaine Knight, Arts Director, Severn Arts added: “Well done to all our finalists and congratulations to our fantastic winners! This year we had our highest number of competition entries so just getting to the final was a huge achievement. The standard of entries was very high, and we would like to thank everyone for taking part this year. The competition provides a wonderful opportunity for young poets to creatively express their thoughts and views. We’re looking forward to working with our new Young Poet Laureate over the coming year.  The 2025 Anthology will be out soon which will showcase a selection of poems from both our finalists and other entries."

As Young Poet Laureate, Evie will act as an ambassador for creative writing, aiming to inspire other young people to explore poetry. She will take part in various projects throughout the year, have her work published, and perform at events and festivals.
