As Bonfire Night approaches, 91制片厂County Council鈥檚 Trading Standards team is reminding local businesses to follow the rules when selling fireworks to keep everyone safe.

If you鈥檙e planning to sell fireworks to the public, you must be licensed and follow strict safety regulations. Most businesses in 91制片厂are only licensed to sell fireworks between 15 October and 10 November. Only a few businesses have year-round licenses.

Trading Standards officers will be visiting premises to check that fireworks are stored safely and that legal safety distances are being followed to protect neighbouring properties and the public.

What Businesses Need to Know:

  • licensing is essential, selling fireworks without a licence is illegal
  • storage matters, fireworks must be stored securely and safely
  • only certain fireworks can be sold, the most powerful types are restricted to professional pyrotechnicians
  • no sales to under-18
    • selling fireworks to minors is a criminal offence
    • businesses must have robust age-verification policies in place

Simon Wilkes, Head of 91制片厂Regulatory Services, said: 鈥淥ur Trading Standards team will be out and about this half term, checking that shops are storing products safely and giving customers the right advice. Licensed premises have a responsibility to follow the law and keep these items out of the hands of young people. While we know the number of licensed outlets has dropped over the years, that鈥檚 no excuse for cutting corners. We want everyone to enjoy the season safely, and that means making sure businesses play their part in protecting everyone.鈥
