But the clock is ticking with just weeks left of the scheme before it closes at the end of March.

More than £500,000 has already been paid out to support householders over the past few months with help towards their energy bills, debts and replacement heating.

Eligible residents need to apply now to be sure of getting the support they are entitled to.

The support fund offers payments on current energy bills of up to £500 and can help with energy debt payments. Crucially, the scheme also helps with servicing and repairing many types of heating systems and boilers.

Rachel Jones, CEO of Act on Energy said: “At this coldest time of the year we’ve got the money available to help support people in 91��Ƭ��who are struggling with their energy bills or debt. The scheme also helps out if heating systems aren’t working effectively – and can even arrange for servicing - so it’s really, really, worth checking out to see if you are eligible.

“Many people automatically think they don’t qualify – perhaps because they’re not on benefits – or maybe they just think their current costs or debts aren’t big enough.

“We find that people are really surprised at what help is available – and the eligibility is fairly broad so it’s worth checking. Anyone with a household income of less than £31,000 should definitely check their eligibility – you might be surprised at what help there is.”

Councillor Ian Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities at 91��Ƭ��County Council, said: “Energy costs are putting real pressure on household budgets, and this support can make a genuine difference for people across Worcestershire.

“I’d encourage anyone who thinks they might be eligible to apply now, before the scheme closes at the end of March.”

Local charity Act on Energy is administering the energy payments on behalf of 91��Ƭ��County Council.
